About Study Mind
Study Mind has been commissioned by the London Borough of Hillingdon to deliver a Group Tuition Alternative Provision for children and young people aged 4–18 who are currently unable to attend school.
Based at our West Drayton Centre, we provide high-quality, small-group education for learners with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Our provision focuses on helping pupils re-engage with education, develop confidence and achieve positive outcomes through personalised learning and therapeutic support. Groups typically consist of 4–8 pupils with a high staffing ratio, enabling every learner to receive individualised support in a nurturing and structured environment.
The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, caring and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support pupils
with a wide range of additional needs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is confident leading learning
and making a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Lead Tutor to plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons
across the core curriculum, while providing high-quality support for pupils with SEND.
We are looking for someone who is confident planning and delivering lessons in English, Mathematics and
Science. Support, mentoring and guidance will be provided in any curriculum areas where further development is
required, ensuring you are fully supported to grow within the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons in English, Mathematics and Science to small groups of pupils.
- Deliver high-quality interventions and targeted support to meet individual learning needs.
- Adapt lessons and resources to meet a wide range of SEND, including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, SEMH and other additional needs.
- Support pupils in achieving the outcomes identified within their EHCPs.
- Assess pupils’ progress and provide accurate feedback to the Lead Tutor and senior staff.
- Help create a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes independence and confidence.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and positive behaviour management techniques.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents, carers and local authority professionals.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress and interventions.
- Promote pupils’ emotional wellbeing, personal development and social skills.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
Person Specification
Essential
- HLTA Status or a recognised Level 4 Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification (or willingness to work towards HLTA status).
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
- Confidence in planning and delivering lessons across English, Mathematics and Science.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt learning to meet a range of educational needs.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Enhanced DBS Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable
- Experience working within an Alternative Provision or specialist SEND setting.
- Knowledge of EHCPs and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, PDA, Dyslexia or SEMH.
- Training in safeguarding, Team Teach, de-escalation strategies, behaviour management or mental health support.
- ICT skills and confidence using educational technology.
- Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
