Trustee Opportunity
Would you like to make a difference to the lives of children and young people in our schools across the South Coast?
The Gateway Trust is seeking outstanding individuals to join our Board of Trustees and contribute towards shaping the strategic direction of our growing and ambitious Trust.
As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in ensuring that every child receives the highest quality education and opportunities to thrive. This is a rewarding voluntary position that offers the opportunity to use your professional skills and experience to support our schools, challenge and support leaders, and contribute to the success of our communities.
About the Role
Trustees provide strategic oversight of the Trust, helping to ensure strong governance, financial sustainability, educational excellence, and effective risk management. Working collectively as a Board, Trustees set the Trust's vision and values, hold senior leaders to account, and oversee the effective use of resources.
In addition to Board responsibilities, Trustees at The Gateway Trust may hold a specialist Linked Trustee portfolio, working with senior leaders in our settings in areas such as:
- Quality of education and School Improvement (Primary and Secondary)
- Safeguarding
- SEND and Inclusion
- Finance, Audit and Risk
- People, Culture and Wellbeing
- Digital, Data and Cyber Security
- Estates, Facilities and Health & Safety
- Community Engagement and Careers
- Growth and Strategy
Some portfolios also include chairing or participating in Board committees. Depending on the portfolio, the annual commitment is typically between 13 and 20 meetings per year, including Board meetings, committee meetings, portfolio-related engagement and governance forums.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and sectors. Previous governance experience is not essential; however, we are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience in:
- Secondary education
- Finance, accounting or audit
- Human resources and organisational development
- Digital technology and cyber security
- Legal, compliance or risk management
Most importantly, you will share our commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people and be willing to dedicate the time needed to fulfil the role effectively.

Commitment
Trustees attend Trust Board meetings throughout the year, participate in portfolio-related activities, and may contribute to committees or forums relevant to their area of responsibility. Training, induction and ongoing support will be provided.
