Garage Coffee Roasters is a speciality coffee business with stores across East Kent. We source and roast high grade, speciality coffee and serve through our shops and wholesale partners. We are looking for a reliable, adaptable, and experienced person to take on a dual role with us. You will be based at our Roastery site in Sturry and will take the lead on managing our cafe offering there. You’ll be responsible for running the café day to day- delivering excellent customer service, maintaining high standards, managing staff, and hitting sales targets. You will also lead the charge of the business development of the cafe which will include menu evolution & events planning.
As well as managing our Roastery cafe you'll be the right hand person to our Operations Manager, deputising for them when they are away and supporting the wider retail operation of Garage Coffee Roasters.
Hours: 35 hours per week
Days of work: Weekday and weekend availability
Location: Based at Garage Coffee Roasters, Calcott Oast, Calcott Hill, Sturry, CT3 4ND. Plus supporting multiple sites across East Kent. Must be able to drive & have use of own vehicle for the role.
Salary: £14.70 per hour

What you’ll do:
Roastery Cafe Manager
- Manage the day-to-day running of the roastery café, leading by example on customer service and workflow
- Train and support the team to deliver consistently great service and coffee, building strong relationships with regular customers
- Take ownership of stock levels, ordering, and organisation in the roastery cafe
- Monitor and maintain food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards throughout the cafe
- Manage rotas and absences for your team, communicating clearly about expectations
- Be a visible, supportive leader- identifying skills gaps and training needs within your team and clearly communicating with relevant people
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and motivating team culture
- Take responsibility for weekly reporting and meeting coffee shop targets
- Develop and grow the roastery cafe's position as THE coffee & food destination in the area. Generating exciting ideas for our menu and events offerings
Deputy Operations Manager
- Help provide reliable cover for sickness, holidays, and other unplanned absences across retail sites
- Act as a role model for team members in attitude, performance, and professionalism
- Share Garage Coffee’s mission & vision with customers and staff
- Implement company standards and operational procedures consistently across locations
- Be trusted to lead the day-to-day operation of the business during the Operations Manager's absence, ensuring our teams are supported, standards remain high, and operational priorities continue to be delivered
- Supporting the rollout of new products, processes, and initiatives.
- Troubleshooting operational issues and supporting teams to find practical solutions.

What we’re looking for:
- Experience managing a coffee shop or similar hospitality business
- Good understanding of specialty coffee and a desire to keep learning
- Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage your own workload
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Good attention to detail and a practical, problem-solving mindset
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, physical environment
