School Manager / Caretaker
We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and hands-on School Manager / Caretaker to join our dedicated team in Bolton. This is a permanent position offering an excellent opportunity to play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance, security, and presentation of the school site, ensuring that the premises are maintained to a high standard at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Open and secure the school premises each day.
- Carry out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and general DIY tasks.
- Ensure the school buildings and grounds are clean, safe, and well maintained.
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections and report any defects.
- Undertake statutory checks, including fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, and water hygiene monitoring where required.
- Liaise with contractors and oversee maintenance works on site.
- Manage site security, including responding to alarm activations where necessary.
- Assist with room set-ups for school events, meetings, and examinations.
- Monitor stock levels and order site maintenance supplies as required.
- Carry out grounds maintenance or coordinate external contractors.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and school policies.
- Support emergency procedures and respond promptly to site-related issues.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, site management, or maintenance role.
- Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- The ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A flexible approach to working hours when required.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
