JW Grant Group is one of Scotland's leading independent builders' merchants, operating five branches across Central Scotland and supplying building, timber, landscaping and civils materials to trade and retail customers.
We are looking for a strong, hands-on Yard Manager to lead our busy Kilmarnock operation.
This is a key role within the branch and would suit an experienced Yard Supervisor looking for the next step, or an existing Yard Manager seeking a new challenge.
We are not looking for someone who wants to manage from behind a desk. We are looking for a leader who will be out in the yard, leading by example, driving standards, developing colleagues and ensuring our customers receive first-class service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day running of the yard operation
- Lead, motivate and develop the yard team
- Ensure customer orders are picked accurately and efficiently
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and yard presentation
- Manage stock locations and support stock accuracy
- Ensure vehicles are loaded safely and efficiently
- Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture
- Work closely with the branch management team to improve operational performance
- Ensure excellent customer service for both trade and retail customers
- Drive continuous improvements in organisation, efficiency and productivity
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience within a builders' merchant, timber merchant, warehouse, distribution or logistics environment
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- A hands-on approach with a willingness to lead from the front
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience managing health and safety within an operational environment
- Forklift licence preferred, although training can be provided for the right candidate
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic

Expected Hours
45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility required to meet the needs of the business and occasional Saturday working on a rota basis.
