Senior Quantity Surveyor – New Build Housing
Location: Bridlington
We are working with a well-established construction business to recruit an experienced
Senior Quantity Surveyor to take a leading role within its new build housing division.
The team delivers a diverse range of medium and large-scale residential developments, including affordable housing, apartment schemes, retirement living and extra care projects. Schemes are managed from the early stages of development and pre-construction through to technical delivery, construction and final account.
This role would suit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong commercial expertise and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial performance of a portfolio of construction projects. You will work closely with site and project management teams while also maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing commercial support and guidance to site and project management teams
- Taking responsibility for the commercial management of multiple live construction projects
- Monitoring project expenditure and reviewing monthly forecasts against actual costs
- Managing the procurement and commercial administration of subcontract packages from initial enquiry through to final account
- Assessing, certifying and approving subcontractor payments
- Providing advice to operational teams on cost management, estimating and contractual requirements
- Preparing and submitting client valuations in line with contractual timescales
- Managing and forecasting external valuations through to agreement of final accounts
- Preparing and presenting valuation reports and cost information to clients and senior management
- Managing project budgets and ensuring accurate commercial reporting
- Pricing, negotiating and managing project variations
- Preparing tender and contract documentation, including bills of quantities and enquiry packages where required
- Supporting the preparation and negotiation of tenders and contract agreements
- Maintaining a strong understanding of both main contract and subcontract obligations
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle
- Supporting, mentoring and developing junior members of the commercial team, including Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors
What We're Looking For
- HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- A minimum of five years' experience working in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction processes and commercial management
- Experience managing a range of construction contracts, including JCT and NEC
- A clear understanding of both main contract and subcontract terms and conditions
- Experience managing multiple projects or a portfolio of schemes
- Strong financial and cost management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- A valid UK driving licence
- A valid CSCS card
