We are looking for an experienced, motivated and highly organised Head Dental Nurse who takes pride in delivering excellent standards and would enjoy helping establish and grow a new practice.
The Role
The Employee’s job title is Head Dental Nurse.
The Employee agrees to be subject to the general supervision of and act pursuant to the orders, advice and direction of the Employer.
Alongside providing excellent chairside support, the Head Dental Nurse will take responsibility for maintaining high clinical standards throughout the practice and supporting the Practice Manager with the day-to-day running of the clinical environment.
As we are a new practice, we are particularly looking for someone who is proactive, confident and comfortable taking ownership of their responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
The Employee will perform the following duties:
- Provide high-quality chairside assistance to dentists, hygienists and other clinicians.
- Ensure a safe, sterile and exceptionally well-presented clinical environment.
- Oversee decontamination processes to minimise disruption and ensure full compliance with infection control procedures.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
- Ensure the smooth running of dental surgeries and support the efficient operation of the practice as a whole.
- Support the Practice Manager with clinical, compliance and administrative responsibilities.
- Maintain compliance with current policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Support clinicians in delivering high-quality general, cosmetic and advanced dental treatments.
- Provide excellent patient care throughout the patient journey.
- Welcome, reassure and build rapport with patients, including nervous and anxious patients.
- Oversee infection prevention and control procedures and ensure protocols are consistently followed.
- Sterilise instruments and prepare equipment and materials for treatments.
- Carry out and maintain appropriate risk assessments and clinical audits.
- Oversee practice SOPs, COSHH documentation and PPE management.
- Support and oversee the training and development of trainee and junior dental nurses.
- Manage clinical stock levels and stock ordering.
- Undertake Infection Control Lead responsibilities where required.
- Help establish and maintain excellent clinical systems and standards as part of the opening and ongoing development of the new practice.
Implant & Digital Dentistry Experience
As The Smile Collective will provide high-quality modern dentistry, experience with advanced and digital workflows would be particularly valuable.
Ideally, the successful candidate will:
- Have previous experience assisting with dental implant procedures.
- Be confident supporting clinicians during implant surgery and associated treatments.
- Understand implant surgery set-up, sterile protocols and instrumentation.
- Be confident taking intraoral digital scans.
- Have experience working with an intraoral scanner and digital dental workflows.
- Be comfortable learning and adopting new dental technology and clinical systems.
Implant and intraoral scanning experience is highly desirable, although additional training can be provided for an exceptional candidate.

Requirements
- Valid GDC registration – required.
- Previous dental nursing experience – required.
- Previous Head Dental Nurse, Lead Dental Nurse or senior nursing experience – desirable.
- Dental implant nursing experience – highly desirable.
- Experience taking intraoral scans – highly desirable.
Working Hours
This is a full-time, permanent position.
The successful candidate will need to be flexible to meet the operational requirements of a growing, newly established dental practice.
