With continued growth and an ambitious outlook for the future, we are now looking to strengthen our finance function with the appointment of an experienced Financial Controller.
Based at our Chapeltown, Sheffield site, this is an exciting opportunity to join a commercially focused business where finance plays an important role in supporting day-to-day operations and future growth.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will take a key role in overseeing the financial control environment and supporting the wider leadership team with accurate, timely and commercially focused financial information.
You will have responsibility for ensuring robust financial processes are in place, while also providing insight and challenge to help the business make informed decisions.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working closely with the wider business rather than operating purely within a traditional finance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the financial control function.
- Lead, manage and develop the finance team.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
- Ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliations and strong financial controls.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital and overall business performance.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Provide meaningful financial analysis and commercial insight to senior management.
- Work closely with operational, purchasing, sales and commercial teams.
- Support strategic and operational decision-making through high-quality financial information.
- Oversee statutory accounts, audit and relevant compliance requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and reporting.
- Strengthen financial controls and drive greater efficiency across the finance function.
- Act as a trusted finance partner to the senior leadership team.
About You
We are looking for a commercially minded finance professional who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with a practical, hands-on approach.
You will ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or be qualified by significant relevant experience.
- Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance position.
- Experience managing and developing a finance team.
- Strong understanding of management accounts, financial reporting and financial controls.
- Experience in food, FMCG, manufacturing, retail, wholesale or distribution would be highly advantageous.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to interpret financial information.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- The confidence to work with senior stakeholders and provide constructive challenge.
- A proactive approach with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
