SOUS CHEF

£35,000–£38,000 per year, depending on experience

We are looking for an experienced, friendly and dependable Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at The White Hart Inn.
Set in the Derbyshire countryside, The White Hart is a stunning country inn serving freshly prepared pub food seven days a week. Alongside our busy restaurant, we are an award-winning wedding venue hosting approximately 100 weddings each year, as well as private parties, corporate events and other functions.
This is a varied, hands-on position for a strong chef who takes pride in freshly prepared food, consistently high standards and helping a busy kitchen run smoothly.
THE ROLE
Working closely with the Head Chef, you will:
- Help lead the kitchen team across breakfast, lunch and dinner services
- Prepare and deliver our freshly made seasonal pub menu
- Support the delivery of weddings, private events and functions
- Take responsibility for the kitchen and team in the Head Chef’s absence
- Maintain consistently high standards of food quality and presentation
- Help manage preparation, service, stock control and food waste
- Support food safety, allergen management, cleaning and kitchen compliance
- Help train, develop and motivate other members of the brigade
- Remain calm, organised and positive during busy services
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong previous experience as a Sous Chef or in a senior kitchen position
- Is confident leading a service and supervising a kitchen team
- Has experience working with fresh ingredients and preparing food from scratch
- Can maintain excellent standards across restaurant and event service
- Is friendly, reliable and works well as part of a team
- Has good knowledge of food hygiene, allergens and kitchen procedures
- Is comfortable working in a busy country inn and wedding venue
- Is flexible and available for breakfast, daytime and evening services
HOURS AND ROTA
This is a full-time position working approximately 45 hours across 4–4.5 days per week.
The rota will include a mixture of breakfast, lunch and dinner services, including evenings and weekends. We aim to provide one weekend day off each week wherever possible.
