Job Summary
Reporting to the Colorectal Nurse Manager, you will provide specialist nursing care and support to patients with colorectal cancer and other colorectal conditions, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred services. You will coordinate care across the patient pathway, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver the best possible outcomes.
The role requires a proactive and autonomous Registered Nurse with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. You will contribute to service development, maintain high clinical and professional standards, and support continuous improvement within the colorectal nursing service. Strong organisational skills, commercial awareness, and a commitment to ongoing professional development are essential.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to patients with colorectal cancer and other colorectal conditions, ensuring services meet national, regional, and local clinical standards.
- Act as a clinical specialist within colorectal nursing, providing expert advice, support, and education to patients, families, and healthcare professionals throughout the patient journey.
- Coordinate and manage patient care across the colorectal pathway, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless and effective care delivery.
- Support the Colorectal Nurse Manager in the development and continuous improvement of colorectal nursing services, contributing to enhanced patient outcomes and experiences.
- Undertake comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualised care plans, and monitor progress to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care.
- Provide emotional support, education, and counselling to patients and their families, enabling informed decision-making and promoting self-management where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure all documentation complies with professional, legal, and organisational requirements.
- Work autonomously, effectively managing a caseload and prioritising workload to meet the needs of patients and the service.
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with patients, carers, clinicians, and external stakeholders to support integrated care and promote positive patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development, maintaining up-to-date clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice within colorectal nursing.
- Uphold the highest standards of clinical governance, patient safety, and professional conduct in accordance with NMC guidelines and organisational policies.
- Contribute to service development initiatives, audits, quality improvement projects, and the implementation of best practice within the colorectal service.

Personal Specification:
Essential:
- Registered Nurse qualification with current NMC registration.
- Experience in colorectal, stoma care, surgical nursing, or a related specialist field.
- Strong clinical knowledge of colorectal patient care and management.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage workload effectively.
- Strong organisational, planning, and time-management skills.
- Ability to analyse information and produce recommendations, action plans, and reports.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of patient-centred care.
- Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Flexible, proactive, and professional, with a commitment to continuous professional development.
Desirable:
- Specialist training or qualifications in colorectal or stoma care.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and coordinating patient care pathways.
- Evidence of autonomous practice within a specialist nursing role.
- Experience in service development, audit, or quality improvement initiatives.
