Overview
Dacy AI is a Birmingham-based AI company building We're small, fast-moving and shipping constantly, and we're now looking for an experienced developer to take real ownership of our website and product build.
This is a hands-on role across the full stack. You'll be building the front end, the APIs behind it, and the AI layer underneath — and you'll be doing it with genuine input into architecture, product direction and priorities. You'll work directly with the founder, with a short line between deciding something and it being live.
We're not looking for someone to be handed tickets and left to grind through a backlog. We want a developer who thinks about the product, spots the things that are broken or half-finished before anyone points them out, and has an opinion on how they should be fixed. If you like a tightly defined role with a big team around you and a clear process for everything, this probably isn't it. If you want scope, autonomy and your work being visibly the thing the company runs on, it is.
One thing we'll be upfront about: we build with AI tooling, and we expect you to as well. If you're already using it daily — not experimenting, actually shipping production work with it — you'll fit in immediately.
Responsibilities
Product and web development
- Build, develop and maintain the Dacy AI website and web application end to end
- Develop front-end interfaces in React / Next.js that are fast, responsive and genuinely good to use
- Translate rough ideas, sketches and designs into working, production-ready features
- Keep performance, accessibility and SEO fundamentals in good order across the site
Back end and APIs
- Design, build and maintain APIs and back-end services in Node
- Model and manage the database layer, including schema design and migrations
- Integrate third-party services and platforms where needed
- Handle authentication, permissions and data security properly
AI features
- Work with LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI or similar) to build AI features into the product
- Design prompts, structure outputs and build the surrounding logic so features behave reliably rather than just demoing well
- Test and iterate on AI features based on how they actually perform with real users
- Keep an eye on model costs, latency and failure modes
Shipping and ownership
- Own your work from idea through to deployment — you write it, you ship it, you keep it running
- Use AI tooling to move quickly without letting quality slip
- Set up and maintain deployment pipelines, environments and monitoring
- Debug and resolve production issues when they come up
- Write enough documentation that the next person isn't guessing
Working with the team
- Work directly with the founder on priorities, scope and what gets built next
- Give honest input on what's realistic, what's worth doing and what isn't
- Communicate clearly on progress, blockers and trade-offs without needing to be chased
Experience and requirements
Essential
- Around 3+ years of commercial experience as a full-stack or front-end developer
- Strong React and Next.js, with solid JavaScript and TypeScript
- Confident building and consuming APIs in Node
- Practical experience working with databases (SQL or NoSQL)
- Working knowledge of Python
- Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs into real products, not just side projects
- Real, demonstrable experience with Claude Code — we will ask you what you've built with it
- Comfortable with Git and a normal collaborative workflow
- Able to work independently, make sensible calls and own decisions
- Clear communicator who can explain technical trade-offs to non-technical people
- Based in or around Birmingham and able to work hybrid
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Experience in an early-stage startup or similarly fast-moving environment
- Familiarity with agentic workflows, MCP servers, or automation tools such as n8n
- Experience deploying and managing infrastructure (Vercel, AWS or similar)
- Some design sense — you care what things look like, not just whether they work
- Experience with testing and CI/CD
- A portfolio, GitHub or live projects you're happy to talk through
