Trenchix Drainage, Borehamwood
Desk-based | Small team | Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm (30 hours), rising to 40 hours
Trenchix Drainage has just opened in Borehamwood. We are the subsurface arm of Civil Connect PLC: commercial drainage.
Someone has to change that. That someone is you.
This is not a field role. You will work from our office, alongside a small team, and you will spend your day on the phone. Builders, developers, contractors, site managers — local commercial and industrial contacts who need drainage and subsurface work. You call them. You introduce us. You turn interest into jobs.
If you prefer inbound enquiries and a warm diary, stop here. If you are happy to open the day with a cold list and close it with booked work, read on.
A “no” is not a personal insult. It is the start of the conversation. Stay on the line. We have the rates and the service to make that worthwhile.
What you will actually do
Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, you are the person responsible for bringing new commercial work through the door.
- Start with a list and work it. Outbound calls, every day, to local firms. Get past reception and through to the person who can say yes.
- Explain Trenchix Drainage in plain English: who we are, what we do, and why their site or project is a fit.
- Dig. Who do they use today? What frustrates them? Where are we cheaper, faster, or simply easier to deal with? Shape the pitch around that.
- Do not let a warm lead die in the inbox. Follow up by phone and email. Handle objections. Stay in the conversation until there is a next step or a clear no.
- Book the next step yourself: a consultation, a site survey, or a first agreement. Pass through the leads that are real; do not clog the diary with maybes.
- Record everything — who you spoke to, what was said, and when to call back — in our tracking system. A lead that is not logged is a lead we have lost.
The hours are 30 a week at the outset. When the book of work is there, this becomes a 40-hour week, still Monday to Friday, still in the office.
The person we want
Straight-talking, thick-skinned, and restless when the phone is quiet. Construction, civils, utilities or water experience will help you speak the language, but we will not turn away a strong seller from another B2B background.
You are likely a fit if you:
- Prefer the phone to sitting behind a screen hoping something arrives
- Can hold a conversation with a site manager without reading from a page
- Have sold before — trades, construction or B2B is useful, not essential
- Care about a full diary and work that you personally brought in
- Treat 9am–3pm as selling time
- Would rather help build a company than slot into one that is already running
- Are competent on a computer, write in clear English, and sound professional on a call and in an email
You do not need a drainage qualification. You need the nerve to pick up the phone, the skill to win the work, and the discipline to keep those relationships alive.
