KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Corporate & Investor Communications
- Drafting and managing all regulatory and investor-facing communications, including SEC filings, press releases, annual reports and investor presentations.
- Serving as the primary point of contact for investor relations activity, coordinating with the CFO, CEO, legal counsel, and financial advisors.
- Ensuring all external communications comply with public company disclosure requirements and SEC regulatory obligations.
- Managing relationships with IR advisors, brokers, and financial media contacts.
- Monitoring investor sentiment and maintaining an up-to-date picture of the shareholder base and analyst coverage.
External Communications & PR
- Developing and executing a proactive communications strategy aligned to Smartkem's business and commercial objectives.
- Leading all media relations activity, including trade, industry, and financial press.
- Overseeing the development and maintenance of corporate digital assets, including the company website, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.
- Managing external PR and communications agencies where applicable.
- Positioning Smartkem's technology and leadership team through thought leadership, conference activity, and award submissions.
Internal Communications
- Developing and managing all internal communications to ensure clarity, alignment, and engagement across the business.
- Supporting the CEO in communicating significant business updates to employees, including restructuring, strategic change, and operational developments.
- Drafting sensitive internal communications with the appropriate tone and level of discretion required in a regulated environment.
Brand & Content
- Maintaining and evolving the Smartkem brand identity across all communications touchpoints.
- Producing high-quality written content for a range of formats and audiences, including board presentations, marketing collateral, grant application narratives, and executive briefings.
- Translating complex scientific and technical subject matter into clear, accessible communications for non-specialist audiences.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a demonstrable ability to adapt tone, register, and format across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Strong understanding of the regulatory requirements and disclosure obligations applicable to publicly listed companies.
- Experience managing investor relations programmes, including drafting regulatory announcements and investor materials.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive, confidential, and complex communications with discretion and sound judgment.
- Competence in developing and executing multi-channel communications strategies across digital, print, and media.
- Strong media relations skills, including experience managing trade, financial, and national press.
- Ability to synthesise and communicate technical or scientific information to non-expert audiences.
- Proficiency with communications and content management tools, including CMS platforms, LinkedIn, and design tools such as Canva or equivalent.
- Familiarity with AI tools as applied to communications workflows is advantageous.
EXPERIENCE
- Significant experience in a senior communications, corporate communications, or investor relations role, ideally within a listed company, technology, or deep-tech environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing communications through periods of significant corporate change, including restructuring, fundraising or M&A.
- Experience working directly with and advising C-suite executives on communications strategy and execution.
- Track record of independently producing high-quality, publication-ready communications across multiple formats.
- Experience managing external agencies and third-party communications partners.
- Degree-level qualification in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Pay: £43,369.93-£168,366.57 per year
