Job Summary:
Norfolk House School is seeking a skilled and experienced Chef to join our team. In this role, you will oversee the daily operations of our kitchen, ensuring the highest quality of food preparation and presentation. As the School Chef, you will prepare and cook meals for our pupils and staff while managing the day-to-day operations of our kitchen. You will maintain a high standard of practice and hygiene in line with current quality standards and have a strong understanding of accommodating food allergies and intolerances. You will report to the Office Manager and be part of the Catering Team.
This role is term time only. The working hours are: 7:30am - 3pm
Responsibilities:
- Prepare fresh, healthy, and balanced meals daily, following set menus and considering students' dietary needs and preferences.
- Assist with creating seasonal, nutritious and allergen-friendly menus each term.
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Communicate regularly with the school leadership to ensure a smooth operation of the kitchen. Provide feedback on menus, portion sizes, and food preferences of students.
- Work alongside the kitchen assistant and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and adhere to health, safety, and food preparation standards.
- Ensure the quality of catering provided meets high service standards for Norfolk House School.
- Monitor stock levels to ensure adequate ingredients for planned menus and minimise food wastage as well as managing kitchen supplies, including fresh produce, dry goods, and cleaning materials.
- Stay informed about developments within the catering industry and new food regulations.
- Follow all food hygiene and safety regulations, including regular cleaning of kitchen areas and equipment. Ensure that food storage, preparation, and serving meet the highest health and safety standards.
- Work effectively within the policies and procedures of Norfolk House School, participating in processes such as appraisal and continuing professional development.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably required commensurate with the role.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of food safety practices and procedures, particularly regarding allergens.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work with fresh ingredients and prepare a variety of healthy dishes.
- Knowledge of various cooking techniques and cuisines.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
Desirable
- Experience in menu planning and stock management.
- Previous experience working as a Chef in a school or a similar environment.
- Qualification in catering or culinary arts.
- Experience working in a school or other educational environment.
