CONTEXT & OPPORTUNITY
Cronite Castings Ltd is looking to appoint a Foundry / Melt and Pour Operative at our Crewkerne site. This is a hands-on, full-time role within our world-class foundry operation, offering extensive training and a genuine opportunity to build a long-term trade.
Rate: £12.71 per hour, with the opportunity for progression and pay increases based on skills development and performance.
Hours: 39 per week, day shifts
(Mon-Wed 07:30-16:30, Thurs 07:30-16:00, Fri 07:30-13:00), no weekends.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Melt & Furnace Operations
- Prepare and run furnace melts in line with control sheets and work instructions
- Check furnace condition, carry out furnace relining, garnissage and repairs as required
- Charge furnaces progressively, monitor the melt and avoid breakout risks
- Pour metal into ladles, following required specifications
- Accurately complete production and control records
- Carry out pre- and post-pour sample analysis and calculate corrections where necessary
- This role involves working closely with the foundry team to ensure the safe and efficient production of molten metal in line with quality standards.
Equipment & Safety
- Work safely at all times and actively contribute to a strong safety culture
- Operate a forklift truck and overhead gantry crane (full training provided)
- Follow Health & Safety, security and environmental rules at all times
- Maintain 5S standards in the work area
- Train in other departments as required by the business
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work in a hot foundry environment

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED
- Foundry knowledge is desirable
- Forklift licence essential for the role (full training provided for the right candidate)
- Able to read and write in English and follow written/verbal instructions
- Good communication skills, basic maths and ability to read scales
- Reliable, hardworking, and positive attitude
- Willing to learn and develop new skills
- Good attention to detail and able to prioritise tasks
- Able to work well independently and as part of a team
