Purpose of Position
To ensure the museum and cottages and its surrounding areas are maintained to the highest standards, presenting a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and stakeholders. The post holder will be responsible for the upkeep and general appearance of the museum and cottage grounds, ensuring it remains well-maintained, tidy, and operational at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Site Maintenance & Presentation
· Ensure all museum buildings, grounds, and public areas are clean, tidy, and well-presented at all times
· Sweep pathways, entrances, and external areas regularly
· Remove cobwebs, leaves, and debris from buildings, walkways, and display areas
· Monitor the general condition of the site and report any maintenance issues promptly
Cleaning & Housekeeping
· Carry out routine cleaning duties across indoor and outdoor areas
· Maintain cleanliness of visitor-facing spaces, storage areas, and staff facilities
· Ensure waste is properly collected and disposed of in line with procedures
Grounds & Gardening
· Conduct basic gardening tasks such as weeding, trimming, planting, and general upkeep
· Maintain lawns, borders, and outdoor exhibits to a high standard
· Ensure landscaped areas enhance the visitor experience
Building Maintenance
· Assist with minor repairs and maintenance tasks where appropriate
· Carry out painting and decorating duties to maintain the appearance of buildings and exhibits
· Clear gutters and drains to prevent blockages and maintain infrastructure
Vehicle Cleaning
· Clean and maintain museum vehicles to a high standard
· Ensure vehicles used for displays or operational purposes are presentable and in good condition
Health & Safety
· Follow all health and safety regulations and ensure safe working practices
· Maintain a hazard-free environment for visitors and staff
· Use equipment and tools responsibly and report any faults
Pay: £12.71 per hour
