SEN Teaching Assistant – September 2026 Opportunities
September is one of the busiest times of the year for schools, as many Primary Schools across Birmingham welcome new pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Schools are now contacting agencies to secure experienced SEN Teaching Assistants who can provide dedicated support to children with a range of additional needs from the beginning of the academic year.
We are looking for passionate, patient, and experienced SEN Teaching Assistants who can make a positive difference in the classroom and help pupils reach their full potential.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver personalised learning and support.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents where appropriate.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Hold a minimum Level 3 Childcare qualification.
- Have previous experience working within a school setting.
- Have experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs.
- Be patient, caring, reliable, and adaptable.
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
Please note: If you have not previously worked in a school, this role would not be suitable, as schools require candidates with prior classroom experience.
