Principal Environmental Health Officer
Starting salary up to circa. £56000 per annum (plus cost of living)
Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn, with hybrid working
Are you an experienced Environmental Health professional ready for your next step? We are looking for a confident Principal Environmental Health Officer to lead our Food Safety and Health and Safety team, helping to protect residents, support local businesses and deliver high-quality regulatory services across West Norfolk.
This is a varied and rewarding role in a borough with urban, rural and coastal communities. The work covers tourism and hospitality businesses, food producers, factories, fishing vessels, shellfish exports and port health activity, offering real professional challenge and variety.
Working with the Environmental Health Manager, you will lead on food hygiene inspections and health and safety services, support and motivate the team, manage a complex caseload and carry out investigations and audits of mainly high-risk businesses. You will also monitor and validate fishery product and shellfish exports, and either be authorised as a Food Competent Certifying Officer (FCCO) or willing to work towards this with our support.
We welcome applications from existing Principal EHOs or experienced Senior EHOs ready to move into a more senior role. You will be registered with the CIEH and hold, or be working towards, Chartered Membership, with significant post-qualification experience in UK food safety, health and safety inspection and enforcement. You will also need strong communication skills and a full driving licence.
