Role at a glance
Location - Spring Meadow Business Park, Rumney, Cardiff, CF3 2ES (in person)
Contract - Permanent; full-time or part-time; 1-2 positions available
Hours - 16-40 hours per week, with shifts of 7:00-15:30, 8:00-17:00 or 8:30-18:00
Pay - £8.00-£12.71 per hour, depending on age and apprenticeship status, in line with the applicable statutory minimum rate
Start - Anticipated for late August or early September 2026
About A Bright Start
A Bright Start Nursery is a family-run setting established in 2014. We provide a warm, inclusive environment where children build confidence and learn through play, and we are members of Early Years Wales and the National Day Nurseries Association. Our September 2025 Care Inspectorate Wales inspection rated the nursery Good in all four areas and highlighted happy children, caring staff and activities shaped by children's interests and developmental needs.
The role
You will work as part of our early-years team, providing high-quality care and learning experiences for children from six weeks to five years. You will build trusted relationships, support individual routines and development, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
What you will do
- Provide attentive care. Build secure relationships and meet each child's physical, emotional and developmental needs with warmth, patience and consistency.
- Support learning through play. Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage language, creativity, movement, independence and social skills.
- Observe and record progress. Complete accurate observations and development records, use them to inform planning and share meaningful updates with parents and carers.
- Keep children safe. Follow safeguarding, health and safety, hygiene, confidentiality and nursery procedures at all times.
- Promote inclusion. Respect every child's background and support children with different needs to participate and thrive.
- Work in partnership. Communicate professionally with families and collaborate with colleagues to provide consistent care.
- Keep developing. Take part in team meetings, training and reflective practice, and contribute ideas that strengthen our provision.
What we are looking for
Essential
- At least one year of experience working with young children in a nursery or comparable early-years setting.
- Good spoken and written English, with the basic digital skills needed for observations, records and family communications.
- Reliability, good timekeeping, teamwork and a friendly, positive approach.
- The ability to commute reliably to Rumney and work across the stated shift patterns.
- A clear commitment to safeguarding children and eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
Preferred
- A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Children's Care, Play, Learning and Development (CCPLD), childcare or early years, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- If you are not yet qualified, a genuine commitment to complete the appropriate Level 2 or Level 3 apprenticeship pathway may be considered.
