About the Role
Response Ambulance Services are seeking professional, reliable and patient-focused individuals to join our Patient Transport Service (PTS) team.
This is a self-employed position involving the safe and efficient transport of patients to and from medical appointments and healthcare facilities. The role requires a high standard of professionalism, strong driving ability, and the ability to provide a calm and respectful service to patients.
Successful applicants will initially complete a structured onboarding and familiarisation period, with shifts increasing based on operational requirements, availability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients between home, hospitals and healthcare settings
- Assist patients with mobility needs using appropriate equipment
- Maintain patient dignity, care and comfort at all times
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and ensure vehicles are clean and fully stocked
- Accurately complete journey records and documentation using PDA systems
- Communicate effectively with control, colleagues and healthcare staff
- Work as part of a two-person crew, rotating driving and patient responsibilities
Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Minimum 2 years’ experience driving vans or larger vehicles
- Strong communication skills and professional manner
- Reliable with excellent timekeeping and attendance
- Flexible and available to work a consistent shift pattern across weekdays and weekends
- Comfortable assisting patients and handling mobility equipment
- Able to follow processes and maintain high operational standards
Role Information
- Self-employed position
- Applicants must be aged 21 or over due to insurance requirements
- Shift-based work across operational hours
- Typical shift start times can be as early as 5:00am, with latest finishes up to 11:00pm depending on operational requirements
- Many shifts operate during afternoon and evening hours, so flexibility around finish times is important
- Work locations include but are not limited to Leeds, York, Harrogate, Wakefield and Bradford
- Routes and service areas may change in line with operational requirements
- Applicants with weekday daytime and evening availability are particularly encouraged to apply
