Job Title; SEMH Practitioner
Location and Postcode; Newcastle Alternative Provision Sites – Great Park (NE13) and Ouseburn (NE6)
Rate of Pay; £17.50 per hour
Shift Pattern Available; Term-time 43.2 weeks of the year (including holiday), 32.5 hours per week
Essential Criteria; Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or SEND needs; able to build positive relationships and adapt activities to the individual; good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
Who we’re looking for: We are looking for someone calm, patient and creative who can build positive relationships with young people and make support meaningful to them. You will need to be able to adapt your approach around each learner’s needs and interests, creating a safe space where they can explore emotions, develop confidence and build positive relationships.
Role Specifics; You will work with young people on a 1:1 or small group basis within our Alternative Provision. You will plan individualised SEMH activities to help learners understand and recognise their emotions, triggers and physical signs, develop coping strategies and manage challenging moments. You will also support learners to communicate their needs and boundaries, build social skills and healthy relationships, identify trusted people they can go to for support and develop confidence in advocating for themselves. Activities should be creative and tailored around the learner’s interests, needs and agreed outcomes. You will record progress and work closely with the Lead Teacher and wider team.
