Front of House Café Assistant
Harvest Barn Farmshop & Café is looking for a friendly, reliable and hardworking Front of House Café Assistant to join our team.
This is a varied, hands-on role combining café duties, customer service and light outdoor and animal-related tasks. We are looking for someone who is confident speaking with customers, works well during busy periods and is willing to help wherever needed.
Main responsibilities
- Welcoming customers and providing friendly, helpful service
- Taking food and drink orders accurately
- Operating the till and handling cash and card payments
- Preparing hot and cold drinks, including coffees, teas and other beverages
- Serving food and clearing tables
- Keeping the café, customer areas and service counters clean and tidy
- Completing daily opening, closing and cleaning tasks
- Restocking drinks, condiments, cutlery and other supplies
- Following food hygiene, allergen and health and safety procedures
- Assisting with customer enquiries professionally
- Helping with washing up and general café duties when required
- Feeding animals and carrying out basic animal-area checks
- Completing light outdoor maintenance, including sweeping, tidying and keeping customer areas presentable
- Supporting the wider Harvest Barn team during busy periods, events and school holidays
About you
- Previous customer service or hospitality experience is preferred
- Barista training or experience using a commercial coffee machine is preferred
- Friendly, approachable and confident when speaking with customers
- Reliable, punctual and able to work well as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a busy environment
- Willing to work both indoors and outdoors
- Comfortable interacting with farm animals
- Able to follow instructions and complete tasks independently
- Good attention to cleanliness and presentation
- Flexibility is essential, as working days may vary depending on the needs of the business
Applicants should be aware that this is an active farmshop and café environment. The role involves standing for extended periods, carrying supplies, working outdoors in different weather conditions and interacting with animals.
Hours and pay
- Hours: Approximately 25–35 hours per week
- Working pattern: Usually four or five days per week
- Shift times: Shifts will fall between 8:30am and 4:00pm
- Pay: National Minimum Wage, based on age
- Weekend and school holiday availability is essential
- Flexibility with working days is required
