Associated Wellbeing is opening a new Complex Safeguarding Children’s Home in Darwen, supporting children and young people whose needs are too complex for standard residential provision.
Children in our care may have experienced child sexual exploitation (CSE), child criminal exploitation (CCE), serious youth violence, significant trauma, and complex mental health needs. Some may also be subject to Deprivation of Liberty (DoL) arrangements to keep them safe.
We are seeking Waking Night Children’s Residential Support Workers to provide consistent, vigilant, and trauma-informed care overnight, ensuring children feel safe, supported, and protected during the most vulnerable hours.
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will maintain a safe, calm, and structured environment throughout the night.
You’ll provide calm, consistent care through the night, checking in on children, offering reassurance if they wake, and supporting any overnight needs. You will play a key role in ensuring children feel safe and emotionally contained during night-time hours.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring the safety and wellbeing of children overnight
- Responding to incidents, distress, or safeguarding concerns
- Completing regular checks in line with care plans and risk assessments
- Working in line with DoL authorisations and safeguarding procedures
- Completing light household tasks
- Writing accurate night logs and records
- Supporting the morning routine prior to handover to the day team
You may be the sole waking night staff member, supported by sleep-in staff, or part of a multi-staff waking night team, depending on the needs of the children. This requires a high level of confidence, vigilance, and professional judgement.
Shift patterns are typically 4 on / 4 off, with approximate hours of 10pm – 8am, however flexibility is available depending on service needs and individual circumstances.
