About the Role:
Tutor Doctor Oxford provides Alternative Education Provision to Oxfordshire County Council through the Start Well framework.
We are looking for experienced SEND Tutors to work with us over the new academic year. The role will suit someone looking for 5-10+ hours tutoring/week during term-time.
You will be suitably experienced and qualified to work with neurodiverse and SEMH learners - demonstrate compassion and able to help students rebuild their confidence and independence after experiencing frustration in mainstream schools.
Sessions take place in a range of locations across Oxfordshire. You will need your own transportation so you can travel reliably to specific tutoring locations.
Tutor Doctor Oxford is dedicated to improving outcomes for school aged children. We partner with schools and local authorities to support students who are absent from their mainstream setting. Students can be vulnerable and disengaged from education, so relationship building and mentoring are key aspects to the tutor's role.
Our students can have SEND/SEMH needs, Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP’s), and may have experienced prior trauma. Our tutors form a trusting relationship with their students and tailor their approach to the student’s individual needs.
Tuition is in curriculum based subjects such as maths, English, and science and we support both primary and secondary aged students.
Responsibilities
- Delivering 1:1 tutoring sessions in schools, family centres, libraries, online or in students' homes
- Planning, preparing and delivering tutoring sessions to best meet specific academic/social needs and goals
- Forming a trusting relationship with students
- Working to achieve an agreed educational outcome
- Assessing and reporting on students' progress on a regular basis
- Adhering strictly to safeguarding policies and procedures
Qualifications and skills
You must be available to work daytime hours (term-time only) to apply. Importantly we are looking for individuals who have the passion and capability to help others learn and discover their potential. Applicants must be familiar with teaching one or more of the core subjects (English, Maths, and/or Science) and have the right to work in the UK. Our tutors must have an enhanced DBS and be on the Update Service, which we can facilitate if necessary.
