Newlands Primary School – 'No Child Left Behind'
Newlands Primary is a fantastic school to work in where we are all passionate about ensuring every child and member of staff achieves their full potential. We have children who love to learn, a very nurturing approach and we believe our children deserve the very best staff who make learning magical. Our staff team is highly skilled, hardworking and dedicated to making a difference in our inclusive school setting. Along with this, we have a fantastic building, incredible IT facilities and extensive outdoor learning spaces.
Could you be the SEN Teaching Assistant we are looking for?
Our Seahorses Class is a specialist, communication-rich provision for pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and diagnoses of autism. Every child has an EHCP, a personalised plan and may require support with personal care as part of their daily routine. We're looking for someone calm, attuned, and deeply committed to helping children feel safe, regulated and ready to learn. If you can bring patience, curiosity and a relationship‑centred approach to your practice, you may be exactly the person our pupils need.
What we are looking for?
- Experience supporting pupils with autism, SLCN, or complex SEND.
- Confidence using visual communication systems (e.g., now/next boards, PECs, widget symbols).
- A calm, nurturing and relationship-based approach to behaviour.
- Ability to follow structured routines while adapting to individual needs.
- Willingness to support personal care sensitively and professionally.
- Strong teamwork, reflective practice, and commitment to inclusive education.
We provide an excellent induction package for new staff and a team of experienced mentors who are ready to support you.
Newlands Primary is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
This role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
We warmly welcome informal enquiries and visits to the school. Please contact us to arrange an appointment—we would be delighted to show you around.
Closing Date: 4th September 2026
All applications must be sent to [email protected] using the Southampton City Application Form, and are to be received by 12 noon on the closing date to be considered.
