We are looking for an Experienced Children’s Home Residential Support Worker to join our growing team.
We are opening a new Home for Learning Disabilities and SEMH needs in Stafford ST17 areas to provide medium to long-term residential care services for children and young people aged 8 to 17.
Shift sessions are days and waking nights and we are flexible in our working patterns for the right candidates. We offer funded enhanced DBS and updates, excellent funded training opportunities, regularly supervision and a warm and friendly working environment with a supportive on site management structure in place.

Main Purpose of Job
- Part of a caring team that provides a safe and loving home for children and young people, led and supported by a Registered Manager.
- Responsible for delivery of quality care services by providing the therapeutic care and support needed for each individual child focused on obtaining the best outcomes.
- Act as a positive role model to colleagues and children to meet their everyday living needs, developing trusting relationships that create recovery, growth and lasting change.
- Completion of care focused training and accessing of appropriate services to support the childcare practices within the home.
- Completion of daily living activities such as cleaning, cooking and supporting the children to learn life skills.
Duties
- Ensure that the physical, emotional and psychological needs of young people placed are met.
- Participate in key working sessions.
- Facilitating and supervising family contact.
- Organising and participating in various activities and events.
- Completing records and documentation timely in line with statutory and home requirements
- Attending external meetings (when requested)
- Completion of various household tasks such as cooking and cleaning whilst support the children to learn life skills.
- Supporting children by driving them to home visits, school and appointments etc. that is in or out of the local area and may involve long distances via motorways, or access public transport.
- Work in partnership with educational staff to ensure that the educational needs of the young people are met.
- Attend and take an active part in team meetings, handovers and supervisions.
Experience
22 years and above - essential.
Previous experience working within a residential children's home environment - desirable.
NVQ Level 3 caring for children and young people / children's residential workforce (or working towards) - desirable. (Note: this would need to be completed within 2 years of successful probation).
Demonstrable understanding of the needs of children and young people in residential care and ability to handle challenging situations with empathy, patience, and professionalism.- essential.
Good understanding of children and young people with mental health, emotional and behavioural challenges - essential.
Related knowledge of legislative frameworks such as Children Act 1989, Children Home Regulations and Quality Standards 2015, Ofsted regulations and safeguarding procedures - desirable.
A strong child focus with a hands on approach and ability to build and maintain positive relationships with children and young people, often in challenging circumstances - essential.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal and competence in basic IT skills, including the use of email and Microsoft Office - essential
Highly driven, proactive and enthusiastic - essential.
Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends in caring for the children and ensuring safe staffing levels - essential
Be able to provide two satisfactory references, including one from the most recent employer- essential
Full driving licence is preferred but not essential - desirable.
