Expected working hours:
- Saturday: 7:30am–1:30pm
- Sunday: 8:00am–1:30pm, once Sunday opening is introduced
These are the planned working hours. Opening and closing times may occasionally vary according to customer demand and business requirements, so some flexibility will be required.
Due to increasing demand, The Forsbrook Pantry is expanding its opening hours to include Saturdays. We also intend to introduce Sunday opening at a later date.
We are looking for an experienced commercial cook who can work every Saturday. Someone who would also be willing and generally available to work Sundays when introduced would be ideal.
This role requires proven commercial catering experience. Applicants must be confident preparing and cooking traditional English breakfast items in a busy café, restaurant, pub or similar professional kitchen. Domestic cooking experience alone will not be sufficient.
Being friendly and approachable is equally important. Creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere and interacting positively with our customers are key priorities at The Forsbrook Pantry. The successful applicant must therefore be comfortable speaking with customers and becoming a friendly, familiar face within our local community.
The role will include:
- Preparing and cooking traditional English breakfasts
- Cooking bacon, sausages, eggs, mushrooms, black pudding, hash browns and similar items
- Preparing hot baps, sandwiches, burgers, jacket potatoes and other café favourites
- Managing several orders at once while maintaining consistent quality
- Welcoming customers and interacting with them in a friendly, professional manner
- Preparing ingredients before service
- Following food hygiene, allergen and temperature-control procedures
- Keeping the kitchen, equipment and preparation areas clean and organised
- Monitoring stock and reporting items that need ordering
- Completing opening and closing kitchen duties
If Sunday opening is introduced, the menu may also include a traditional Sunday lunch. Experience preparing roast meats, vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, gravy and other Sunday-lunch items would therefore be a definite advantage.
Essential requirements:
- Proven experience working as a cook in a commercial kitchen
- Experience preparing and cooking traditional English breakfasts
- Reliable availability every Saturday from approximately 7:30am
- Friendly, approachable and confident interacting with customers
- Willingness to be flexible when opening hours change according to demand
- Ability to work confidently under your own initiative
- Ability to remain organised and calm during busy periods
- Good knowledge of food hygiene and allergen safety
- Excellent reliability, punctuality and attention to detail
A Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate is preferred, although suitable training can be arranged.
This is an excellent opportunity to help us develop our weekend service and become an important part of a friendly, growing local business.
To apply, please send your CV together with a short message outlining your commercial catering experience and confirming your Saturday and Sunday availability.
