Labourer / Assistant Engineer – Inspect & Repair

Inspect & Repair is looking for a motivated labourer / assistant engineer to join our friendly, growing team. This role is ideal for someone with some practical experience who’s keen to learn, develop new skills and build a long‑term career in a supportive environment.
About the Role
You’ll assist our engineers with the maintenance and repairs on play equipment across parks, schools and community spaces. Day‑to‑day tasks include helping with site preparation, carrying tools and materials, supporting repair work, and ensuring equipment is safe and ready for use. The work is hands‑on, outdoors and varied, giving you the chance to learn directly from experienced team members while gaining confidence in a practical role.
You’ll travel to different sites across the South West, interact professionally with clients and contribute to keeping our projects running smoothly. You’ll also help with basic reporting, tidying work areas and supporting installations. A Day in the Life of an Inspect & Repair Labourer
The day begins at the hub, where the team loads up the vans with tools, materials and parts needed for the jobs ahead. As a Labourer, you’ll help organise equipment, gather fixings and components, and make sure everything is ready for the engineers on site. It’s a practical, hands‑on start to the morning, and a quick briefing sets out the day’s schedule and the locations you’ll be working in.
Once out on the road, you’ll support engineers across a variety of sites — schools, parks, play areas and community spaces. Every day is different. You might be helping remove worn components, carrying materials, digging out wet pour, preparing surfaces, or assisting with installing new parts. You’ll learn how repairs are carried out, and how to work safely around play equipment. The role is active, outdoors and varied, ideal for someone who enjoys physical work and being part of a team.
Throughout the day, you’ll help keep jobs running smoothly by fetching tools, tidying work areas, supporting with basic tasks and learning new skills as you go. You’ll also help record job notes and communicate with the office when needed.
At the end of the day, the team returns to the hub to unload, clean tools, restock materials and prepare for tomorrow. It’s a chance to catch up, review the day’s work and make sure everything is ready for a smooth start the next morning. Over time, Labourers build confidence, gain experience and progress into more technical responsibilities within the company.
What we’re looking for
- A clean UK driving licence preferred but not essential (must be able to get themselves to and from our HQ in Ilminster)
- A clean DBS check (or willingness to complete one)
- Some practical or labouring experience preferred
- A positive attitude, willingness to learn and good communication skills

Pay: £28,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
