Job Title: Maintenance Engineer
Job Summary/Purpose:
We are seeking a proactive and highly motivated Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to support the efficient operation of our production facility through the delivery of planned preventative maintenance and rapid response to equipment breakdowns. The successful candidate will play a key role in minimising downtime, maintaining plant reliability, and ensuring all machinery and equipment operate safely and efficiently. Working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, the role requires strong electrical maintenance expertise, supported by sound mechanical knowledge, to diagnose faults, implement repairs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The Maintenance Engineer will also contribute to equipment installations, engineering projects, and provide technical support across departments to help achieve operational and production objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Planned preventative maintenance is concerned with carrying out preventative maintenance activities on production machinery, plant equipment and site services in accordance with maintenance schedules.
Reactive maintenance is responding promptly to equipment breakdowns and operational issues to minimise disruption to operations. Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults using a systematic approach.
Continuous improvement is concerned with monitoring equipment and performance and identify faults. Recommend and implement improvements to machinery and maintenance practices to enhance efficiency, safety and productivity.
Installation assistance with the installation and testing of machinery or equipment. Supporting engineering projects or machinery upgrades as required. Working collaboratively with the operations teams to ensure projects are completed safely and effectively.
Health and Food safety is ensuring health, safety, environmental and food safety requirements at adhered to. Following safe systems and lockout procedures were applicable.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Time served apprenticeship and qualified to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Maintenance or related discipline.
- Strong electrical maintenance background supported by sound mechanical engineering knowledge.
- Previous experience in a maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment.
- Proven experience carrying out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing faults on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Experience working with production machinery and plant equipment in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience maintaining accurate maintenance records and completing maintenance documentation.
- Working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Basic understanding of PLC-controlled equipment, motor inverters, and industrial control systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a methodical approach to fault finding.
- Ability to prioritise workload and respond effectively to breakdown situations.
- Good communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Self-motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety, and housekeeping.
Desirable:
- 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
- Additional electrical or mechanical certifications relevant to manufacturing environments.
- Previous maintenance engineering experience within the food manufacturing or food processing industry.
- Experience supporting machinery installations, commissioning activities, and engineering projects.
- Experience working within a continuous improvement or lean manufacturing environment.
