Summary
We are seeking a Maintenance person to join our team at Cedarwood Care Centre, a residential care home located on Sutton Road, Erdington, B23 5XB.
This is a key role in ensuring the home remains safe, compliant, and well-maintained, directly supporting the delivery of high-quality care to our residents.
Following a successful probation period of 3 months, you will be required to participate in an on-call rota, supporting Cedarwood Care Centre and providing maintenance cover for three additional homes within the group.
Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and fault finding across electrical, plumbing, and general building systems
- Ensure the home environment is safe, well-maintained, and compliant with health and safety regulations
- Conduct regular checks of fire safety systems, including fire doors, emergency lighting, call bells, and alarm systems
- Complete and maintain required documentation, including maintenance logs, compliance checks, and safety records
- Undertake room checks and environmental audits to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment for residents
- Respond promptly to maintenance issues to minimise disruption to residents and staff
- Support infection prevention and control measures, including maintaining clean, safe, and hazard-free environments
- Ensure water safety compliance (e.g. temperature checks, flushing regimes, basic legionella control tasks)
- Maintain external areas including pathways, gardens, and car parks to ensure safety and accessibility
- Assist with moving and handling equipment maintenance (e.g. beds, hoists, wheelchairs)
- Support the installation and setup of new equipment and furniture
- Work collaboratively with the Home Manager and wider team to prioritise maintenance needs
- Supervise contractors on-site and ensure all works are completed safely and in line with company expectations
- Participate in the on-call rota after probation, providing emergency maintenance support across additional homes
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in general maintenance, electrical, or mechanical roles
- Strong practical skills across multiple trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, general repairs)
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, particularly within a care or residential setting
- Experience of fire safety checks and building compliance is highly desirable
- Understanding of infection control and safe working practices
- Ability to maintain accurate records and complete compliance documentation
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with staff and residents
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively
- Supervisory experience or ability to oversee contractors is advantageous
- A flexible approach, particularly in relation to on-call responsibilities
