Part-Time Vehicle Maintenance / Handyman
Up to 20 hours per week | £20.00 per hour
We are a small, friendly and long-established local passenger transport company, mainly providing school transport services using minibuses of up to 17 seats.
We are looking for a practical, hands-on person to help us keep our fleet of vehicles tidy, well maintained and up to the standard required for reliable and compliant passenger transport.
This would suit someone with good general mechanical knowledge who enjoys practical work and is confident carrying out routine vehicle maintenance and checks.
The Role
Duties will include:
- Carrying out general daily and routine vehicle checks
- Checking tyres, pressures and general tyre condition
- Changing tyres when required
- Replacing bulbs and other minor electrical items
- Replacing windscreen wipers
- Checking fluid levels and topping up where necessary
- General minor mechanical and maintenance jobs
- Carrying out road checks/test drives to identify any obvious faults or issues
- Reporting any defects or work that requires further attention
- Keeping vehicles clean, tidy and presentable
- Helping ensure our minibuses are kept roadworthy, safe and compliant
- General hands-on jobs around the fleet as required
We have our own facilities and keep the equipment and stock needed for the role in-house, including tyre-changing equipment, tyres, parts and general vehicle maintenance items.
This is not necessarily a role for a fully qualified mechanic. We are more interested in finding someone who is practical, mechanically minded, reliable and takes pride in keeping vehicles in good condition.
What We Are Looking For
Ideally, you will:
- Have good general vehicle/mechanical knowledge
- Be confident carrying out basic vehicle maintenance
- Be practical and able to work independently
- Have a good eye for identifying faults or potential problems
- Understand the importance of vehicle safety and preventative maintenance
- Be reliable and organised
- Take pride in keeping vehicles clean, tidy and well presented
- Be comfortable working with minibuses and passenger vehicles
Previous experience in vehicle maintenance, garages, fleet maintenance, transport, engineering or a similar hands-on role would be useful.
Hours & Pay
Pay: £20.00 per hour
Hours: Up to 20 hours per week
There can be some flexibility around the working hours, which can be discussed with the right person.
