Assistant Commercial Manager

As an Assistant Commercial Manager, you'll play an important role in supporting the Commercial Manager with pre-contract activities and the commercial management of projects across the Sussex Route. You'll help ensure contracts are managed effectively, payments and variations are accurately assessed, and projects are delivered in line with contractual and compliance requirements.

What you'll be doing
As part of our commercial team, you'll:
- Support the measurement and evaluation of the commercial value of payments, ensuring works are correctly certified before authorisation and aligned with contractual obligations.
- Assist in monitoring and reporting on the commercial performance of allocated projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of contract specifications, tender documentation, and procurement activities.
- Support the commercial and contract management of a range of contract categories, helping to ensure best value and effective project delivery.
- Build positive working relationships with project teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to support successful outcomes.
Essential
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Basic level of commercial awareness
- Basic negotiation skills with ability to influence decision making.
- Computer literate including ability to utilise in-house and external software.
Desirable
- Able to effectively communicate at the appropriate levels, both internally and externally
- Membership of an appropriate professional organisation, or working towards membership
- Experience of using electronic sourcing and/or procurement systems
