Join our team of regenerative producers, workshop leaders and agroecological volunteers!
The new Grower will lead on The Blackthorne Trust’s Growing for Giving project.
Growing for Giving supplies local Food Banks and Community Fridges directly with organic ready-to-eat crops. Thanks to new support from Powys County Council’s Food Aid funding, we’re expanding to increase deliveries to these and new partner outlets, supplying winter salads to the people most in need of fresh food.
Working both alone and alongside our Volunteer Coordinator, the new post of Grower will oversee production, including bringing together small teams of community volunteers, to produce, pack and deliver winter salad crops.
Working both at Blackthorne’s home site (LD65PD) and at our offshoot space at Ashfield Community Gardens (LD15PL), the Grower will oversee succession planting and cropping of whole lettuce heads and cut-and-come-again salads within the greenhouses and bed spaces available.
Person specifications:
· Own transport essential
· Experience growing commercially (with continuous delivery) will be prioritised
· Experience and enjoyment working within Volunteer teams preferred
· Safeguarding Training and personal DBS check desirable
But we’re also looking for:
· A passion for getting healthy food to where it’s most needed
· Someone who is based near the growing sites
· Flexibility in allotting weekly hours to form a smooth greenhouse management timetable
Reporting to the Project Manager, the post will be offered on a Self-Employment basis so you must be registered as Self-Employed to apply.
