Management Accountant
Location: Tamworth, Staffordshire
Salary: Circa £45,000 DOE
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Working Pattern: On-site, with flexible start times between approximately 7:30am and 9:00am
The Opportunity
An established and growing international stainless-steel distribution business is looking to recruit an experienced Management Accountant to join its team in Tamworth.
This is a hands-on role suited to somebody who wants to take real ownership within a business rather than simply produce reports.
We are looking for a confident, commercially minded accountant who is comfortable challenging existing processes, investigating problems and driving them through to resolution. You will work closely with colleagues across finance, sales, purchasing and operations, helping the business understand not only what the numbers are, but what is driving them.
The business supplies an extensive range of stainless-steel tubes, pipes, flanges and fittings to manufacturing customers across the UK and internationally, making stock, purchasing, product costing, margins and working capital important parts of the finance function.
The Role
You will take responsibility for a broad range of management accounting, financial control and commercial finance activities, including:
- Producing accurate monthly management accounts, including P&L and balance sheet reporting
- Managing and improving month-end and year-end processes
- Preparing budgets, forecasts and cashflow forecasts
- Providing meaningful financial analysis to support commercial and operational decision-making
- Analysing product margins, costs, stock and working capital
- Investigating variances and challenging inconsistencies within financial and operational information
- Maintaining balance sheet, bank, supplier and intercompany reconciliations
- Supporting and improving credit control and cash management
- Monitoring inventory, receivables and payables to improve working capital performance
- Working closely with sales, purchasing and operational teams to improve financial understanding across the business
- Reviewing existing procedures and identifying opportunities to improve controls, reporting and efficiency
- Supporting the continued development of ERP and finance systems
- Assisting with the planned migration and development of Sage Business Cloud
- Ensuring appropriate financial controls, accounting standards and reporting requirements are maintained
About You
We are particularly interested in somebody who can bring confidence, ownership and commercial judgement to the position.
You are likely to be:
- A qualified, newly qualified or finalist accountant, ideally CIMA, ACCA or ACA
- Experienced in management accounting within a commercial environment
- Comfortable taking ownership of issues and seeing them through to resolution
- Confident questioning information and challenging colleagues constructively when something does not look right
- Commercially aware and able to understand how operational activity translates into financial performance
- Experienced working with stock, inventory or product-based accounting systems
- Comfortable analysing margins, costs, stock movements and working capital
- Strong with Excel and experienced using ERP or finance systems
- Able to communicate financial information clearly to people outside of finance
- Proactive, organised and comfortable working within a fast-moving SME environment
Experience within manufacturing, engineering, metals, stockholding, distribution or another product-led business would be particularly advantageous.
Previous Sage experience would also be beneficial, although broader ERP and systems experience is equally valuable.
What We Are Looking For
This role will suit somebody who is prepared to take the reins.
We don't need somebody who simply accepts the information put in front of them. We want someone who will question why something has happened, investigate discrepancies, challenge processes where appropriate and help find a better way of doing things.
You will have the support of an established team, but you should also be comfortable working independently, making decisions and becoming a trusted financial partner to the wider business.
The Company
The company is an established specialist supplier of stainless-steel products including tubes, pipes, flanges and fittings, supporting major manufacturing businesses across the UK and international markets.
Operating within a stockholding and distribution environment, the business manages an extensive product range and supplies customers across sectors including automotive, heat exchangers, hydraulics and industrial manufacturing.
Continued growth has created an opportunity to strengthen the finance function with an experienced Management Accountant who can help improve financial reporting, systems, controls and commercial insight.
