Event Assistant (Casual)Job Description
GRASS Cliftonville CIC is looking for enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking Event Assistants to join our team at The Oval Bandstand & Lawns in Margate.
This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the delivery of our busy programme of live music, festivals, outdoor cinema, theatre, sporting events and community activities. You'll play an important part in creating a safe, welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone visiting The Oval.
The role is primarily focused on event set-up, event operations and event pack-down, working as part of a friendly team to prepare the venue before events, support activities throughout the day and restore the site afterwards.
As an ambassador for GRASS Cliftonville CIC, you'll help deliver exceptional customer service whilst promoting our commitment to community, inclusion and high-quality events.
Essential Requirement
Applicants must be available to work on Sunday 26 July 2026. This is a mandatory requirement due to a major event taking place at The Oval Bandstand & Lawns. Unfortunately, applicants who are unavailable on this date will not be considered.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with the set-up and pack-down of events, including tables, chairs, barriers, gazebos, fencing, signage and event equipment.
- Preparing the venue before events to ensure it is safe, clean and ready to welcome visitors.
- Supporting the smooth operation of live events throughout the day.
- Greeting visitors and providing excellent customer service.
- Assisting with visitor information and wayfinding.
- Supporting performers, traders, contractors and volunteers where required.
- Helping maintain high presentation standards throughout events, including litter picking, emptying bins and ensuring public areas remain clean and welcoming.
- Assisting with stock movement, deliveries and general event logistics.
- Carrying out basic maintenance and housekeeping duties around the venue.
- Working safely in accordance with all health and safety procedures.
- Reporting maintenance, safety or operational issues promptly.
- Promoting a friendly, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors.
- Representing GRASS Cliftonville CIC in a professional manner at all times.
Requirements
- Aged 18 years or over.
- Willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
- Previous experience in events, hospitality, customer service or a similar role is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive, friendly and proactive attitude.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically capable of undertaking manual handling associated with event set-up and pack-down.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays during the events season.
- A genuine interest in community events and delivering outstanding visitor experiences.

Working Pattern
This is a casual, zero-hours position with working hours based around our annual events programme. Most shifts take place between Friday and Sunday, together with occasional weekday events.
