Job Summary: The Storesperson is responsible for supporting the effective control, organisation, and day-to-day running of the company stores function at the Preston site.
The role involves receiving and checking deliveries, maintaining accurate stock records, issuing tools, parts, PPE and consumables, and ensuring stores areas are kept clean, organised, safe and compliant. The post holder will support operational efficiency by ensuring materials, parts and equipment are available when required and that stock levels are accurately maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
Goods Inwards
-
Receive, unload and check deliveries against purchase orders, delivery notes and internal requests.
- Inspect goods for damage, shortages or discrepancies and report any issues promptly.
- Ensure all goods received are recorded accurately using company systems and processes.
- Liaise with delivery drivers, suppliers and internal departments to resolve queries.
- Ensure delivered items are stored safely and in the correct locations.
Stock & Inventory Management

Maintain accurate inventory records for tools, parts, PPE, consumables and other stock items.
- Carry out regular stock checks and assist with stock takes as required.
- Monitor stock levels and highlight low stock, overstocking or obsolete items.
- Support the maintenance of stock thresholds to ensure operational requirements are met.
- Ensure stock movements are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
Stock Allocation & Dispatch

Pick, pack and issue tools, parts, PPE and consumables to relevant staff and departments.
- Ensure items are issued in line with company procedures and properly recorded.
- Prepare items for internal transfer or dispatch where required.
- Support site teams by ensuring requested items are available and supplied efficiently.
- Maintain clear traceability of issued stock and returned items.
Stores Housekeeping & Compliance

Keep stores, storage areas and workspaces clean, organised and safe at all times.
- Ensure stock is stored correctly, safely and in accordance with relevant health, safety and legislative standards.
- Maintain clear walkways and ensure materials are not stored in unsafe or inappropriate areas.
- Support good housekeeping practices across stores and associated areas.
- Report hazards, defects or unsafe conditions to management promptly.
Systems & Administration

Use company procurement, stock control and warehouse management systems accurately.
- Update records relating to goods received, stock movements, issued items and stock counts.
- Maintain clear documentation including purchase orders, delivery notes and internal request records.
- Support improvements to stock management processes and stores administration.
- Ensure all information entered into company systems is accurate, timely and complete.
Communication & Operational Support

Liaise effectively with staff, suppliers, drivers and management.
- Support operational teams by ensuring required parts, PPE, tools and consumables are available when needed.
- Communicate stock issues, delays, shortages or discrepancies clearly and promptly.
- Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Procurement and Finance teams where required.
- Provide general stores support to help improve site efficiency and reduce unnecessary downtime.
Working Conditions:

Site-based role at the Preston location.
- The role will involve working within stores, warehouse and operational site areas.
- Manual handling will be required as part of normal duties.
- Use of forklifts or other handling equipment may be required where the post holder is appropriately trained and authorised.
- Personal protective equipment must be worn in line with site requirements.
- Flexibility may be required to support operational needs, deliveries, stock takes or urgent requests.
