Mobile Plant Fitter

Depot Manager / Engineering Manager
Location:
Depot based with travel to customer sites
Job Purpose
To carry out inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of plant and equipment at customer sites and depots, ensuring machinery is safe, compliant and ready for hire. The role requires strong technical ability, safe working practices, and professional customer interaction.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance & Repairs
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on a range of plant and equipment (e.g. excavators, dumpers, telehandlers, rollers, generators).
- Carry out routine servicing and preventative maintenance.
- Complete pre-delivery inspections (PDI).
- Undertake breakdown call-outs and respond within agreed service levels.
- Identify additional repair work and report findings to the depot.
2. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with LOLER, PUWER and company safety procedures.
- Complete job sheets, inspection reports and compliance documentation accurately.
- Maintain van stock, tools and equipment in safe working condition.
- Follow risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Report any accidents, near misses or safety concerns.
3. Customer Service
- Represent the company professionally at customer sites.
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding faults, timescales and safe use of equipment.
- Escalate recurring issues or misuse of equipment.
- Build positive working relationships with site managers and operators.
4. Administration & Reporting
- Complete digital job sheets in a timely manner.
- Record parts used and labour time accurately.
- Notify depot of parts required and update on job progress.
- Support warranty claims with accurate information.
5. Vehicle & Equipment Responsibility
- Maintain company vehicle in clean and roadworthy condition.
- Ensure van stock is controlled and replenished.
- Comply with driving regulations and company vehicle policy.

Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a plant fitter (mobile or workshop).
- Strong mechanical and hydraulic knowledge.
- Ability to diagnose electrical faults.
- Welding/fabrication experience desirable.
- Relevant plant qualifications or NVQ Level 2/3 (or equivalent).
- Full UK driving licence.
- CSCS or equivalent site card desirable.
