About Us
Fylde AP & Educational Services Ltd is a Lancashire-based alternative provision delivering education for young people unable to attend mainstream school. Working from our Poulton-le-Fylde centre and through outreach, we provide Section 19 placements commissioned by local authorities and schools. Our ethos is relationship-first: we meet each child where they are, helping them re-engage with learning and rebuild confidence at their own pace.
The Role
We are looking for a warm, adaptable primary tutor to deliver tailored 1:1 and small-group teaching to primary-aged pupils (KS1–KS2) who are out of mainstream education. Many of our pupils have faced anxiety, exclusion, or significant educational disruption, so sessions prioritise engagement, confidence, and trust alongside academic progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated sessions in core primary subjects, adapted to each pupil's level and needs
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may be anxious or disengaged
- Use a flexible, interest-led and often practical approach rather than rigid written work
- Assess and track progress, measuring engagement and confidence as well as attainment
- Write clear lesson reports and maintain accurate records
- Follow all safeguarding procedures and report concerns promptly to the DSL
- Complete dynamic risk assessments and contribute to individual support plans where needed
- Liaise professionally with colleagues, families, schools, and the local authority as required
Essential
- QTS or equivalent, or substantial experience teaching/tutoring at primary level
- Understanding of the barriers faced by children out of mainstream education (EBSA, exclusion, EOTAS, SEMH)
- Patient, calm, and relationship-focused approach comfortable with slow-burn progress
- Strong behaviour management and the ability to adapt in the moment
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain and maintain one)
- Commitment to safeguarding and safer working practices
Desirable
- Experience in alternative provision, SEND, or SEMH settings
- Team Teach or equivalent de-escalation training
- Experience delivering outreach or home-based sessions
Pay: £36.00-£45.00 per hour
