Finance Assistant

We are looking for a proactive and organised Finance Assistant to join our clients finance team. This is a varied role covering Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and wider finance responsibilities, including expenses, analysis and general finance support.
The role would suit someone who enjoys variety and wants exposure across different areas of finance rather than focusing solely on transactional processing.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable – approx. 40%
- Processing supplier invoices accurately and efficiently
- Matching invoices to purchase orders and resolving discrepancies
- Preparing and processing supplier payment runs
- Reconciling supplier statements and investigating outstanding items
- Managing supplier queries and maintaining good relationships with suppliers
- Ensuring invoices are appropriately authorised and coded
- Supporting month-end AP processes and reconciliations
Accounts Receivable – approx. 20%
- Raising and processing customer invoices and credit notes
- Allocating incoming payments accurately
- Maintaining customer accounts and investigating discrepancies
- Supporting the collection of outstanding balances where required
- Responding to customer account queries
- Assisting with AR reconciliations and month-end processes
Wider Finance & Analysis – approx. 40%
- Processing and reviewing employee travel and business expenses
- Checking expenses against company policies and ensuring appropriate approvals are in place
- Preparing regular financial reports and analysis
- Supporting with variance analysis and investigating differences
- Maintaining and analysing finance data using Excel
- Identifying discrepancies and working with the wider business to resolve them
- Supporting improvements to finance processes and controls
- Providing general finance and administrative support as required
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role
- Experience of Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable
- Good Excel skills, with the ability to manipulate and analyse financial data
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Confident working with numbers and investigating discrepancies
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Strong communication skills and confidence liaising with both finance and non-finance colleagues
- A proactive approach with a willingness to get involved across different areas of the finance function
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys working in a varied finance role and is comfortable balancing transactional responsibilities with broader finance, reporting and analytical tasks. They will be organised, accurate and confident taking ownership of their workload, while being happy to support the wider finance team wherever needed.
