FACILITIES TECHNICIAN
The Outward Bound Trust, Eskdale Centre, Lake District National Park, West Cumbria
Salary: £16,114 per annum (£13.77 per hour) plus great benefits
Location: Eskdale, Cumbria
Full time 22.5 hours per week. Permanent contract.
We’re looking for a practical, proactive and hand-on Facilities Technician to help keep our Outward Bound centre running safely and efficiently.
At our busy and welcoming outdoor residential centre you’ll play a key role in maintaining our buildings, grounds, vehicles and specialist outdoor equipment, helping to create a positive, safe, welcoming and inspiring environment for young people and guests. This is a varied role with opportunities to learn and develop your skills over time.
We pride ourselves on providing high-quality facilities and an outstanding experience for all our guests.
What you’ll be doing
No two days are the same — one day you might be fixing a shower or maintaining a vehicle, the next you could be supporting a programme with transporting kit or helping ensure our equipment is in top condition.
Your main tasks will include:
· Carrying out general maintenance across buildings, grounds, vehicles, and outdoor equipment.
· Making sure everything meets safety and compliance standards.
· Identifying, reporting and making safe any health and safety concerns.
· Keeping records of maintenance and statutory checks.
· Assisting contractors on site, supporting the wider facilities team, and stepping in for the Head of Facilities when required.
· Helping to maintain, check and issue outdoor equipment and PPE.
· Joining toolbox talks, meetings and training sessions, and sharing your skills with others.
About You
You’ll bring solid general maintenance skills and experience, with a practical, safety-focused approach and a knack for solving problems, whilst taking pride in your work.
Preferably you’ll have trade, LANTRA or health & safety qualifications but these are not essential.
You’ll need to be organised, hands-on and happy working both independently and as part of a team. You’ll have good communication skills, a friendly, can-do attitude, and the energy and fitness needed for a varied, active role both indoors and outdoors. Some basic IT skills (Outlook and Excel) would be useful too.
A full driving licence is essential, and a D1 minibus entitlement, would be a bonus.
