ASSISTANT GROUNDSMAN – POLO & ESTATE MAINTENANCE

About the Role
Cortium Estate is seeking a hardworking and enthusiastic Assistant Groundsman to support the Senior Groundsman and estate team in maintaining the estate's polo grounds, agricultural land, landscaped areas and general presentation.
This role would suit an individual looking to develop a long-term career within estate management, sports turf, grounds maintenance or agriculture.
Key Responsibilities
Grounds & Polo Field Maintenance
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of polo grounds and playing surfaces.
- Carry out mowing, strimming, divot repairs and general turf maintenance.
- Assist with field marking and event preparation.
- Maintain lawns, paddocks and landscaped areas to a high standard.
Agricultural Support
- Assist with tractor operations and agricultural machinery.
- Support grassland and paddock maintenance.
- Assist with seasonal agricultural activities and estate projects.
- Carry out machinery cleaning and routine maintenance.
Irrigation Support
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Monitor system performance and report faults.
- Support seasonal servicing and repairs.
Estate Maintenance
- Carry out fencing repairs and general estate upkeep.
- Assist with hedge cutting, pruning and vegetation management.
- Support maintenance of estate roads, tracks and infrastructure.
- Maintain tidy and organised workshops, stores and machinery areas.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, farming, landscaping, estate work or a similar practical environment.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Good practical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to work anti social hours and part weekends during Spring and Summer months.
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
- Tractor driving experience.
- Agricultural machinery experience.
- Irrigation experience.
- Sports turf, polo ground, golf course or racecourse experience.
- Relevant land-based qualifications.
Salary & Benefits
- £28,000 – £38,000 per annum, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
- Discretionary annual performance bonus.
- Accommodation on the estate or a housing allowance, subject to individual requirements may be negotiated as apart of salary and benefits.

Applicants should ideally live within a 20-minute drive of Haslemere or be willing to relocate.
