Key Responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To undertake an SCQF Level 7 Social Services (Children and Young People) qualification as required, demonstrating a commitment to personal and professional development and to improving knowledge, skills and performance within the role.
- To develop the knowledge, skills, experience and professional practice associated with the qualification, with a particular focus on Early Learning and Childcare.
- To contribute positively to the delivery of high-quality early learning and childcare as a member of the Early Learning and Childcare Team at Fly High Early Learning, working within the setting to which you are assigned and, where required, supporting other Fly High settings.
- To attend all required training sessions and meetings with the training provider, assessor and/or support staff throughout the apprenticeship, ensuring that all training and assessment requirements are met.
- To maintain an up-to-date workplace portfolio and provide appropriate evidence of learning and development in accordance with the standards and requirements set by training provider.
- To work under the guidance and direction of the Lead Practitioner and other designated members of the team, undertaking responsibilities appropriate to your level of competence and experience.
- To demonstrate continued progression in knowledge, skills and confidence throughout the apprenticeship and to apply learning from the Modern Apprenticeship (MA) programme appropriately within workplace situations.
- To follow all relevant policies, procedures and guidance of Fly High Early Learning, the training provider and any applicable regulatory bodies.
- To ensure that all duties and responsibilities are carried out in accordance with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, including those relating to the Care Inspectorate, safeguarding and child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and the wellbeing of children.
- To work safely and responsibly at all times, following Fly High Early Learning’s Health and Safety policies and procedures and reporting any concerns promptly to the appropriate member of management.
- To work collaboratively as part of the Early Learning and Childcare Team, contributing to a positive, inclusive and supportive environment for children, families and colleagues.
- To undertake duties with increasing efficiency, confidence and proficiency as competence develops, taking responsibility for applying learning and responding positively to feedback and professional guidance.
- To seek advice, support and guidance from the designated mentor, manager or Lead Practitioner whenever required. Appropriate support will be available throughout the apprenticeship to assist with workplace learning and development.
- To share progress with coursework, training and assessment with the designated mentor/manager, identifying any areas where additional support may be required.
- To take an active role in your own learning and development, ensuring that coursework, assessments, workplace evidence and other qualification requirements are completed within agreed timescales.
- To maintain appropriate professional standards when working with children, parents/carers, colleagues, visitors and members of the public, demonstrating a friendly, respectful, professional and helpful approach at all times.
- To maintain confidentiality and handle information relating to children, families, colleagues and the organisation appropriately and in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- To be flexible in your approach to work and, where reasonably required, undertake duties across different Fly High settings where this supports your learning, development, training and the operational needs of the organisation.
- To undertake any other reasonable and appropriate duties as directed by the Manager, Lead Practitioner or designated mentor, where these are consistent with the level and nature of the apprenticeship and support the needs of the service.
General Responsibilities

The postholder may therefore be required to undertake other reasonable duties from time to time, provided these are broadly consistent with the purpose, level and responsibilities of the role and are within their competence and training.
The postholder will primarily be based at Fly High Early Learning and Childcare but may, on occasion, be required to work at another Fly High location where this is appropriate and beneficial to their experience, development, training or the operational requirements of the organisation.
As an apprentice, the postholder is expected to demonstrate a commitment to learning, professional development and continuous improvement throughout the apprenticeship period.
