The Role
We are looking for an organised, commercially minded and proactive Assistant Management Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support the preparation of accurate and timely management information across a varied group of companies, properties and operating sites.
This is a hands-on role offering broad exposure to management accounting, property accounting, hotel and leisure reporting, VAT, intercompany accounting and month-end processes. Previous experience using Sage 50 Accounts is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Management Accounts & Month End
· Prepare and post journals, accruals, prepayments and depreciation.
· Maintain fixed asset schedules and registers.
· Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures.
· Support balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances or ledger discrepancies.
Sage 50 & General Ledger
· Post and review nominal ledger transactions in Sage 50 Accounts.
· Complete bank reconciliations and review bank transactions.
· Process and reconcile intercompany transactions across group companies.
· Investigate and correct posting or ledger discrepancies.
Property Accounting
· Assist with landlord and property statements where required.
· Account for property management commissions and fees.
· Assist with service charge accounting and property expenditure.
· Process and reconcile insurance, utilities, repairs, maintenance and other property-related costs.
· Assist with tenant and landlord recharges and maintain financial information by property.
Hotel & Leisure Accounting
· Assist with monthly financial reporting for hotel and leisure operations.
· Reconcile revenue and receipts to accounting records and bank accounts.
· Assist with departmental income, expenditure and cost analysis.
· Support stock and inventory reconciliations where applicable.
Purchase Ledger, VAT & Compliance
· Support accurate processing and coding of supplier invoices and review supplier accounts.
· Reconcile supplier statements, investigate discrepancies and assist with payment runs.
· Assist with the preparation and reconciliation of VAT returns.
· Provide year-end information requested by external accountants.
· Support statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.
Commercial & Operational Support
· Provide clear financial information to support commercial decisions.
· Assist with identifying cost savings, unusual trends and areas requiring further review.
What We’re Looking For
· Previous experience working in an accounts or finance department, ideally within a multi-company environment.
· Experience assisting with monthly management accounts.
· Good practical understanding of accruals, prepayments, journals, depreciation and balance sheet reconciliations.
· Experience of bank and intercompany reconciliations.
· Good understanding of purchase ledger, sales ledger and nominal ledger processes.
· Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
· Previous Sage 50 Accounts experience is preferred.
· Property, hotel, hospitality or leisure accounting experience would be advantageous.
· Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines across several companies.
Qualifications & Personal Attributes
· Ideally studying towards, or intending to study towards, AAT, ACCA, CIMA or ACA.
· Reliable, organised and able to meet deadlines.
· Commercially minded, proactive and willing to investigate issues through to resolution.
· Confident communicating with finance and operational colleagues at different levels.
· Able to work independently while contributing effectively to the wider finance team.
