We are seeking to appoint an experienced, highly organised and skilled Senior Learning Support Assistant to join our Support for Learning team, taking a lead role in Communication & Interaction across the school.
This is a key role within the team, requiring a proactive practitioner who can combine high-quality in-class support with the ability to design, deliver and evaluate targeted interventions, while working collaboratively with staff, families and external professionals. The successful candidate will contribute strategically to the identification, planning and monitoring of provision for students with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
In addition to delivering high-quality classroom support, the successful candidate will:
- Work in close partnership with the SENDCo to identify, prioritise and plan provision for students with Communication & Interaction and Physical & Sensory needs
- Lead the development of personalised support plans, drawing on transition information, external agency reports and teacher feedback, and utilising assessment tools such as SDQ, Boxall Profile and communication assessments
- Plan, deliver and evaluate a range of specialist interventions, including:
o Communication and Language (CaL) groups
o Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) programmes
o Fine motor skills and handwriting development
o Lego Therapy and other bespoke interventions
- Monitor and assess progress at 6-weekly intervals, adapting provision in response to student outcomes
- Take responsibility for tracking and analysing student progress using Provision Map, ensuring accurate and impactful recording of interventions
- Act as a key point of contact for parents/carers, communicating effectively to support engagement, review progress and promote positive outcomes
- Liaise with external agencies, including the Specialist Teacher Advisory Service, coordinating reviews and ensuring recommendations are effectively implemented and communicated to staff
- Contribute to the preparation of Access Arrangements evidence, ensuring robust and compliant documentation
- Deliver targeted training and INSET to colleagues to develop inclusive classroom practice and raise staff confidence in supporting identified needs
- Maintain a presence within the classroom, modelling effective practice and supporting students as required by the SENDCo
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have significant experience supporting students with SEND, particularly in Communication & Interaction and/or Physical & Sensory needs
- Demonstrate the ability to lead interventions and contribute to whole-school provision
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to work with staff, families and external professionals
- Be highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Be reflective and proactive, with a commitment to continuous improvement
- Be flexible, resilient and able to respond effectively to the dynamic nature of school life
- Hold Maths and English GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent)
- Have ELKLAN training or similar
