Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the optimal operation of heavy goods vehicles and associated equipment. This role requires a strong mechanical background, proficiency with electrical systems, and experience with various tools and fabrication techniques. The ideal applicant will demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety standards.
Duties
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs and related machinery
- Diagnose faults using schematics and electrical diagrams, then perform necessary repairs
- Carry out fabrication, welding, soldering, and assembly work as required for repairs or modifications
- Use hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to repair or replace components
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and repairs performed
- Operate heavy machinery such as excavators and forklifts safely within the workshop or site environment
- Perform heavy lifting tasks safely while adhering to health and safety regulations
- Assist with equipment repair projects involving electrical systems or mechanical assemblies
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and manufacturer specifications
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repairs and maintenance needs
Skills
- Proven experience in heavy vehicle maintenance, particularly HGVs
- Strong mechanical knowledge combined with electrical experience
- Proficiency in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Skilled in fabrication techniques including welding and soldering
- Competent with hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment such as excavators and forklifts
- Ability to perform assembly work accurately and efficiently
- Experience in equipment repair, maintenance planning, and troubleshooting complex systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail
- Good physical strength for heavy lifting tasks and manual handling activities
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly
