Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Bookkeeper / Payroll Specialist to join our accountancy firm based in North London. As part of our team, you will play a key role in managing financial records for a diverse portfolio of clients in the corporate, SME, health, and charity sectors. You will report directly to a Company Partner with over 30 years of experience in the industry, offering an invaluable opportunity to further develop your expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of clients across various sectors
- Process accounts payable and receivable, manage general ledgers, and ensure timely payment of invoices
- Reconcile accounts, including accounts payable and receivable
- Complete and submit VAT returns and assist with preparation of financial statements
- Support with year-end accounts preparation
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations and maintain high standards of service
- Process end-to-end payroll, including RTI submissions, pensions, and statutory payments for several clients on Sage Program, ensuring the payroll is accurate and submitted to HMRC and sent to clients
- Ensure all records are maintained and compliant with UK regulations.
- Dealing with client correspondence and emails
- Investigating and recording discrepancies to assist in the reconciliation of accounts.
- Supporting the Company Partner with general administrative duties, including updating accounting databases, generating reports, issuing invoices and maintaining spreadsheets and trackers.
Skills and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should demonstrate:
- 2+ years experience in bookkeeping, payroll and accounts preparation preferably within a UK-based accountancy firm.
- Proficiency in accounting software, particularly Sage 50 Payroll, SageLine50 and Sage 50 Accounts, with a solid understanding of UK accounting practices.
- Practical knowledge of payroll processing and general accounting principles, including HMRC submissions and statutory deductions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
- Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to maintain accuracy across financial records and the ability to meet deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with clients and colleagues.
Education and Training Requirements:
- AAT, ACA, ACCA qualifications or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Solid understanding of UK payroll and bookkeeping legislation and practices.
