You'll play a central role in driving the growth of two of the Group’s key brands: Direct Corporate Clothing (off-the-shelf PPE and workwear contract specialists) and Incorporatewear (bespoke corporate uniform specialists).
You’ll also help establish WWUGL as a renowned brand in and of itself.
Role Overview:
As the Head of Warehouse and Logistics for our workwear, uniform, and PPE business, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of UK warehouse operations and logistics while driving efficiency through automation and Lean Six Sigma methodologies. In addition, you will manage budgetary controls to ensure cost-effectiveness and alignment with organisational goals.
You will be the driving force behind our hybrid fulfilment centre. You will oversee a team of over 40 cross-trained operatives, balancing high-density automated storage (AutoStore) with traditional manual picking and processing. Your mission is to ensure seamless flow from Goods In to Returns, maintain peak efficiency, and foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute the warehouse and logistics strategy in alignment with overall business objectives.
- Lead and inspire the team to achieve performance targets and KPIs.
- Establish a vision for automation implementation and Lean Six Sigma excellence.
- Performance Management: Set clear KPIs for pick rates, put-away accuracy, and processing times. Conduct regular 1-on-1s and address performance gaps proactively.
2. Automation Integration:
- Identify, evaluate, and select automation solutions to optimise warehouse and logistics operations.
- Oversee the implementation and integration of automation technologies.
- Ensure that automation initiatives align with strategic goals and provide a competitive edge.
- Automation Oversight: Monitor AutoStore performance, ensuring port utilisation is maximised and coordinating with maintenance teams for any technical interventions.
3. Lean Six Sigma Excellence:
- Champion Lean Six Sigma principles across the warehouse and logistics functions.
- Lead cross-functional teams to identify areas for process improvement and waste reduction.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
4. Goods-In and Goods-Out Management:
- Oversee the efficient receipt, inspection, and storage of incoming goods, ensuring real-time inventory updates.
- Manage the accurate and timely processing of customer orders, packaging, and shipping.
- Collaborate with the Goods-In and Goods-Out teams to streamline operations and reduce lead times.
5. Returns Processing:
- Develop and manage procedures for handling customer returns efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure that returns are processed, inspected, and inventoried appropriately.
- Collaborate with customer service to resolve return-related issues promptly.
- Actively look to reduce returns and undeliverable parcels.
6. Packing Operations:
- Implement and optimise automated packing processes for efficiency and accuracy.
- Oversee the secure and proper packaging of products to prevent damage during transit.
- Utilise automation-driven packing solutions to improve productivity and reduce errors.
7. Budget Control:
- Develop and manage budgets for the warehouse and logistics departments.
- Monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement strategies to optimise costs.
- Ensure budgetary controls are aligned with organisational financial objectives.
8. Equipment and Facility Management:
- Ensure the maintenance and safety of automated equipment and warehouse facilities.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to address equipment malfunctions or issues promptly.
- Oversee the proper storage and maintenance of tools and automated equipment.
9. Safety and Compliance:
- Promote and enforce safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Report and address safety hazards or incidents promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all workplace regulations, safety standards, and PPE requirements.
- Monitor and maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with our ISO Standards 9001, 14001, 45001
10. Team Leadership and Development:
- Recruit, train, and manage warehouse and logistics staff, providing leadership, guidance, and continuous training.
- Manage two warehouse managers across two floors with 3 team leads covering the different operational areas
- Foster a culture of teamwork, performance excellence, and innovation within the teams.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide coaching, and facilitate professional development.
- Resource Planning: Dynamically move your team between automated ports and manual zones based on real-time volume fluctuations.
- Co-operation with the Branding team in particular, in order to achieve the company SLA’s
12. Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Utilise data analysis tools to monitor warehouse and logistics performance, KPIs, and metrics.
- Generate reports on operations, inventory levels, returns, and Lean Six Sigma projects.
- Present findings, recommendations, and strategic insights to senior management.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in senior management roles with a strong focus on warehouse and logistics operations, automation, and Lean Six Sigma.
- Highly IT literate, familiarity with WMS, ERP and Balanced Scorecards
- Expertise in automated warehouse systems, forklift operation, and packaging equipment.
- Strong financial acumen, budget management, and cost optimisation skills.
- Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and communication abilities.
- Continuous improvement mindset and the ability to drive change and innovation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing business needs.
