Doncaster Sheffield Airport is entering a transformative period as preparations continue for its planned reopening, following its closure in 2022 and sustained regional efforts to restore aviation activity to the site. Local partners and aviation specialists have been working together to rebuild the operational foundation required for a safe return to service.
About the role
Doncaster Sheffield Airport is entering an exciting new phase of development and growth. We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Airport Engineering Manager to establish, lead, and develop a brand-new engineering function that will support the safe, efficient, and sustainable operation of the airport.
This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on engineering leader to shape the future of engineering at a growing UK airport. Reporting to the Airport Asset Manager you will be responsible for creating the engineering strategy, building the team, developing maintenance standards, and ensuring all airport infrastructure and critical assets are maintained to the highest levels of safety, compliance, and operational performance.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting airport operations from reopening and beyond, creating a proactive engineering culture that delivers reliability, resilience, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership

Develop and implement the airports engineering strategy.
- Establish a new in-house engineering function including organisational structure, systems, processes and governance.
- Develop, short, medium and long-term maintenance and asset replacement plans.
- Provide technical leadership to support airport growth and future infrastructure projects.
- Manage Engineering Budgets, capital investment programmes and lifecycle planning.
Engineering & Asset Management
Take responsibility for the maintenance and performance of all airport infrastructure and engineering assets including;

Electrical Distribution Systems
- Mechanical Systems
- Building Services
- Baggage Handling Systems
- Security Related Infrastructure
- Standby power generation
- Fuel Systems & Utilities
- Introduce and maintain effective Planned Preventative Programmes
- Drive asset reliability, operational resilience and performance improvement
Compliance & Safety

Ensure compliance with all applicable aviation regulations, health and safety legislation, environmental requirements and industry standards.
- Support regulatory inspections and audits.
- Act as the airports engineering’s subject matter expert for operational and capital projects.
- Develop engineering procedures, risk assessments, safe systems of work and permit to work processes.
Team Development

Recruit, lead, coach and develop a high-performing engineering team.
- Establish a culture of accountability innovation and continuous improvement
- Manage contractor performance and external maintenance providers.
- Support training, competency and succession planning programmes.
Project Delivery

Lead engineering aspects of airport development projects.
- Deliver infrastructure improvements and asset enhancement programmes.
- Support mobilisation and commissioning of new facilities and systems
- Provide technical input into business planning and operational decision making.
