We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Paralegal to join our specialist Domestic Abuse Department. The successful candidate will support survivors of domestic abuse by providing high-quality legal assistance in protective injunction matters (Non-Molestation Orders, Occupation Orders) and related family proceedings.
You will work as part of a committed and supportive team delivering legal services with compassion, professionalism, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Take initial instructions from clients sensitively and with understanding of trauma-informed practice
- Assist in preparing and drafting urgent court applications, including Non-Molestation Orders and Occupation Orders
- Prepare statements, chronologies, and supporting documentation in line with court and legal aid requirements
- Liaise with courts, police, support workers, and interpreters as required
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of Legal Aid applications (including emergency funding)
- Manage and maintain case files, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and regulatory standards
- Attend hearings with counsel or solicitors when required (as note-taker or support)
- Update clients regularly and ensure they are informed and supported throughout the legal process
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding protocols at all times
- Support solicitors with case progression, correspondence, and administrative tasks as needed
Person Specification
Essential:
- Working knowledge of CCMS and Legal Aid Agency procedures
- Experience in legal aid-funded family law work
- Law degree or equivalent legal qualification
- Experience in family law and domestic abuse legal work
- managing own caseload of DA cases from start to finish.
- Strong drafting, organisational, and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure, especially in urgent and sensitive cases
- Empathetic, non-judgmental, and client-focused approach
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems
