Established Accountancy Practice | Skipton | 4 or 5 Days Per Week
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 4 or 5 days per week – hours flexible for the right person
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience and hours
About the Role
We are an established accountancy practice based in Skipton, with a friendly and experienced team and 60 years of history this year.
We have built long-standing relationships with our clients, many of whom are local agricultural and rural businesses, alongside clients from a wide range of other sectors.
We are now looking for a Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join our small, supportive team.
This is a varied, office-based role offering the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients, take genuine responsibility for your own workload and build strong, long-term relationships with clients.
Our particularly strong portfolio of agricultural and rural businesses makes the work interesting and varied, with the opportunity to develop your bookkeeping and accounts knowledge and, where relevant, gain an understanding of how agricultural businesses operate.
The Role
Working as part of our team, you will provide bookkeeping and accounts support to a portfolio of clients.
Your duties will include:
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for a range of clients
- Assisting with VAT, Making Tax Digital and other client requirements
- Liaising directly with clients in a friendly and professional manner
- Assisting with the preparation of clients’ financial accounts
- Managing your own workload and working to deadlines
- Working as part of a small and supportive team
The work is varied, and you will have the opportunity to develop strong working relationships with a wide range of clients and gain experience across different types of businesses.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are not necessarily looking for someone who ticks every box. We are more interested in finding the right person, with the right attitude and a willingness to learn.
You may be an experienced bookkeeper looking to develop your career within an established accountancy practice.
Alternatively, you may have good agricultural knowledge together with some bookkeeping or accounts experience and be looking for an opportunity to develop those skills further.
Given the number of agricultural and rural clients we work with, an understanding of farming and how agricultural businesses operate would be particularly useful.
Equally, if you are an experienced bookkeeper with little or no agricultural experience, we would be very happy to hear from you. Agricultural experience is not essential, as we are happy to support you in developing this knowledge.
Experience within an accountancy practice would be an advantage but is not essential for the right person.
Experience with Xero would be useful, although training and support can be provided where required.
What matters most to us is that you are:
- Numerate and comfortable working with figures
- Accurate and well organised
- Reliable and conscientious
- Able to work independently and meet deadlines
- Friendly and confident when dealing with clients
- Willing to learn and develop
- Professional, trustworthy and discreet
- Able to work well as part of a small team
What We Offer
We offer a friendly, welcoming and supportive working environment within an established accountancy practice.
You will benefit from:
- An office-based role within our Skipton practice
- 30 to 37.5 hours per week, depending on whether you work 4 or 5 days, with some flexibility around hours
- A small, friendly and experienced team
- A pleasant working environment
- Free on-site parking
- A varied portfolio of clients and interesting work
- Genuine responsibility and regular client contact
- Training and support where required
- The opportunity to develop your bookkeeping and accounts knowledge
- The opportunity to gain experience working with agricultural businesses
- A long-term role within a well-established practice
- Salary negotiable depending on experience and hours
